Agency allocates $300 million for I-66/Route 28.
Good news for drivers who take the I-66/Route 28 exits and entrances in Centreville — and in this area, that’s pretty much everyone. A fix for the congestion, especially during rush hours, just took a giant step toward becoming a reality.

A highlight of every autumn is the fall festival at Cox Farms, 15621 Braddock Road, just off Pleasant Valley Road, in Centreville. It runs daily from Sept. 27-Nov. 4, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Out-of-This-World Celebration
The third annual Chantilly Day celebration is this Saturday, May 17 and, with two former NASA astronauts coming, it promises to be out of this world. The festival runs from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., rain or shine, in the Kmart and Babies R Us parking lots in the Sully Place Shopping Center, off Route 50 West in Chantilly. And there’ll be fun for the whole family. Free children’s activities will be provided by the Chantilly-Centreville Chamber of and its sponsors and are being coordinated by the Chantilly Youth Association (CYA). The fun includes a rock wall, moonbounces and trackless train, plus several sports-themed activities.
Fairfax High’s Musical: 13 Cappie Nominations
‘9 to 5’ is in the running for Best Musical.
The 2014 Cappie nominations were unveiled last Monday, May 19, and Fairfax High’s production of ‘9 to 5’ received a whopping 13 nods – a school record – including Best Musical.
Saving Virginia’s Ecosystem
Today’s youth are part of Virginia’s rising population, so it seems fitting that they investigate how this increased growth impacts the state’s ecosystem. That was the task given to 47 students of Centreville elementary fourth-grade teachers Mary Ann Settlemyre and Kate Charlton. Last summer, both teachers took the month-long VISTA (Virginia Initiative for Science Teaching and Achievement) program at GMU.

With the general election just a month away, a Candidates Night was held last Wednesday, Sept. 25, in Chantilly. Presented by the Sully District Council of Citizens Associations and the League of Woman Voters of the Fairfax Area, it let residents meet local incumbents and challengers and hear their positions on various issues.
Centre View Roundups March 8-14
Certified technicians from the Sully District Police Station will perform free, child safety carseat inspections Thursday, March 8, and March 22, from 5-8:30 p.m., at the station, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly. No appointment is necessary. But residents should install the child safety seats themselves so technicians may properly inspect and adjust them, as needed.
Fairfax Council Takes Care of Business
Deals with broken gas line, transportation issues.
Transportation and a gas-line replacement were among the items dealt with by the Fairfax City Council at its Jan. 28 meeting. A leaking gas line at the City property yard was discovered in early November 2013. As it turned out, the 40-year-old gas line had burst between the gas meter by the fleet garage and the sign-and-signal building.

Centre View Roundups for May 17
More MathCounts Success Coached by Rocky Run Middle School’s MathCounts coach, teacher Melanie Roller, Virginia’s MathCounts team came in fifth last week in national competition. And one of the team members, Rocky Run eighth-grader Robin Park, was ranked 11th in the U.S. in the individual standings. In March, Rocky Run’s MathCounts team won the state championship, and Robin, the team captain, finished second in the state. So he got to compete on Virginia’s team in Nationals, May 10-11, in Orlando, Fla., with the other three highest scorers in the state, and Roller coached them.
Ready to Take on the World

After capturing the FIRST Lego League state championship, Rocky Run’s seventh-grade team, R2D2, is ready to take on the world. The five girls and two boys are heading to St. Louis to participate, April 24-27, in the world championship.
